Finally, all the major drainages in Wyoming have dropped below flood stage. As this article points out, however, the rivers are still swollen and dangerous. As you drive by the North Platte in Casper, it doesn’t look like it is moving very fast,or that it would be considered dangerous, but the shear volume is what gives it its force and strength.
For some perspective, it is now running at about 7300 cfs, and the usual spring, high water, run-off averages around 3200 cfs; so we are still over twice our usual spring time high water volume.
Please think twice before recreating on the river, and as always – wear life jackets.
